He picked up a rattle at the side of his head and waved it about today.
No idea if it was aimed for, or if his hand just happened to drop onto it,
and then clench and wave. But it's the first time I've seen him actually
take something into his hand on his own without it being placed in his
hand for him.
He had a lick of a strawberry yesterday. Doesn't seem to be having any
particularly bad effects so far. Not sure how keen he was on it, though.
I may try mashing one up and feeding him a little of it later. I just
need to get up the energy to sterilise some feeding things. Not that I
think he needs things sterilising, what with his habit of licking every
little thing that comes near him, floor included.
Crikey, they're all at it. We've got Ted and Eva having a little boy yesterday, a woman from tech support at work, having a little boy on the same day as benjamin. I just found out today a friend of mine had a boy called james last summer apparently and didn't tell me (chuuh :-<), and decided recently she wasn't coming back to work. A designer at work went off on maternity about the time of vicky and had a boy too called benjamin. And my brother (well his wife) had his little boy 9 months before benjamin.
He's talking... !!
Well, repeating words parrot fashion. While we've noticed something sounding like "hiya" has been done for a while, and while vicky says he has been doing the following for a while. the other day when we were visiting our friend's Ted and Eva's (who also since had a little boy) he said, in front of witnesses, "Hello" clear as a bell !!
I'l freely admit that it was just parrot fashion, but isn't all speech to start with? And at 3 and 1/2 months its got to be worth something. Either way I'm a very proud dad of my little fella. :-)
Strained my neck, I think, on the way up to nanna's last Saturday, and
now, over a week later, it's just getting worse. It was bareable to start
with, but now it's getting too painful even to pick Benjamin up. If it
isn't getting better tomorrow it's going to have to be a trip to the
doctors.
Which means I haven't been able to play with him at all today. Fortunately
nanna is here to play. Unfortunately, she's going home tomorrow. Could
be bad. :-/
Benjamin hasn't eaten a lot today, and spent most of the past 2 days
asleep. He went to sleep on the sofa at about 8 tonight, which was a
bit odd. Hope it's not going to stop him sleeping tonight.
He had a giant giggling session with nanna today. Not just the little
single laugh he does when very smiley, but a full blown hysterical laughter
moment.
Still licking everything he can get near his mouth.
Spent a week at nanna's, which involved a first swim, a first bottle,
a first (slightly) solid food (baby rice) and an exciting trip to
Southport.
Swimming was fun. In a giant inflatable ring with a seat. Could be
better once he learns to sit up for longer on his own, rather than
nose-diving head first into the water.
Don't think he's quite figured out what to do with solid food once it
is in his mouth yet. But he's getting there.
Getting much more interested in toys. Likes to grab the octopus off
the baby gym at nanna's, and watches the teddy bear when it plays a
tune at him, so his directional hearing seems to be working ok.
Giving some good signs of being able to crawl some time soon. He can
lift his head fully off the floor now (when he isn't licking it!), and
can push himself up and wave his legs about until he topples over to the
side. Always the same side, though.
Benjamin got to go to yet another party this weekend!
Murder Mystery weekend at Keith's, in Cambridge.
And another couple of presents for him - a fluffy bulldog off Dunc and
Liz, and a tree planted on his behalf in Huyton from Keithy. Which is a
lovely present, and nicely reminiscent of my time as a wood nymph. :-)
Benjamin looked lovely in his little dragon suit. And he seems to have
made Rachel and Tony quite broody. Got some nice photos of them being
all snuggley with him.
None of us were the murderer. I was a banker, Benjamin was the demon
nipple sucker (otherwise known as the dead man's lovechild!), and dada was
Michael Hotpants, an aging rock star, whose latest hit was "I can't SMS
you right now, my thumb hurts". But he wouldn't sing it to us.
Benjamin was very well behaved, as ever, only crying when he was hungry
or tired. He's very good at going to other people, but he does look and
smile at his mummy when she reappears now, which he didn't really used to
do unless he was hungry.
3 months old today! Which means it's back to work soon for me. :-<
Got to go see Chris next week to discuss what I'm going to do. Should
be helped a bit by Liz agreeing to take him one day a week. And my mum
will try coming down to do some Thurs->Tues times, maybe once a month
if I'm lucky.
Took him to get weighed. 13lb8oz. Nearly a stone! (lardy boy)
He had his first jabs this time last week. Still got a little bit of
a lump, but he seems pretty much ok with them now. He still gets upset
getting a nappy on, though. I had to put him back in disposables for
a week cos the kushie wraps were cutting into the sore bit. Trying
him in them again from this afternoon.
Still only vaguely interested in toys, although he's giving his mat
dangley toys a bit of a bashing now and then. He started turning one
of the sides of his cube with his foot last night, but I suspect it
was more of an accident than anything.
Getting close to being able to sit up on his own in the Bumbo(tm).
I think he likes being able to sit up, but not having to hold his head
on his own. And definitely liking his bouncychair more than he did.
I remember his uncle Tom when he was little bouncing about in an orange
version of it (this one is blue and sheepy). He's not quite up to that
stage yet, though.
