this is from when Benjamin met rob yesterday, tadah resulting Photos
So all of a sudden he's gone from lying around flapping at things to sitting up quite happilly on his own (he has to be put there, he can't pull himself up yet - and he still falls over a bit). And he's shouting Mummmmmmmoomoo, or moomoomummmmmm, or mmmmmmmmmmmmmoo at things. He's also got a playpen, which he's happy in in the morning for up to about 15 mins whilst I make and eat breakfast, before he starts getting stroppy. Hurrah!
I'm trying to work out if his mmmmmmmmmmmming relates to anything in particular - at first I thought mmmmmummmmmmmoomoo was me. Then he called my feet moommmmmmmum. Then he seemed to change around. So I guess it's just random noise-making still. But he's getting there.
Warning, Warning!! may cause women to get clucky.

So he's 5 months old now. And a bit.
He seems to respond to his name now, has been doing for a few days.
And if he's lying on his nappy mat and you hold out your hands and say
"give me your hands", he will. I say "he will" in a "he will if he's
not being distracted by something else" kind of way, you realise.
He can roll from his back to his front and his front to his back, but
he's been doing that for a couple of weeks now.
Mr Turtle seems to be out of favour now. Today his favourite play-
thing was his 'farm animals' book. It's crinkley, and has different
textures on each animal. He still likes his octopus off his playmat
from nanna's. And he loves Bagpuss. Both the little beanie one, and
the Bagpuss fridge magnets in the kitchen.
So, its been a while since dad commented...
Obviously I don't see as much of Benjamin as his mum, but he always smiles at me when he does... He's started drinking whole bottles of water in a day, and personally I'm well inpressed, I mean the bottle is about a third of his body length... Especially considering he wouldn't take more that a sip of a bottle, even ones with mummy milk in them, a few weeks ago, and now he's emptying the whole thing.
I'm not sure if mummy has mentioned already, but Bendy is sleeping in his own bed now, in his own room; except when he gets up at 6am and crawls out of the cot, into our room and gets in our bed, and lies just where it means when I roll over I land on him.
And then, the sleeping, he seems to like lying on his side, grabbing one of the bars of the cot. His mummy tried to turn him back over tonight, and he didn't like it, and turned back after having a whinge about the whole matter... oops sorry I'm being corrected, "it wasn't just a bit of a whinge" says mum.
He does need a lot of attention, he's old enough to want to be not bored and needs entertained, but not old enough to entertain himself. He's not to mobile, and trying to grab things usually ends up in just clouting them accross the floor/off his seat. But he's getting better, he got hold of Mr Turtle this evening and belted the crap out of him. The violence was slightly worrying but the dexterity was an impressive improvement. And I've not quite worked out how to get him to understand me conveying right and wrong yet; you frown and him and he just smiles and giggles, you smile at him and he smiles and giggles. If its not clear he's pretty smiley and giggley, except when he's tired, then he's a little whingey sod, and there's not much you can do for him except get vicky to take him to bed and feed him. ...but there is one trick to stop him whinging a bit, "the Baby in the Mirror".
So, this entails, picking him up and walking up to the lounge or hal mirror, and then you have to get him to look at the baby in the mirror. It just seems to be, to me, that the baby in the mirror is his friend, and he doesn't want to be seen crying in front of his friend. He stares at the baby in the mirror, and tries to hold his hand, and occassionally plays pat-a-cake. :-)
He can roll from his back to his front and back to his back now.
Not done it often, but enough for me to witness it. And he can do
360' turns on his bum.
He still loves the "baby in the mirror", although it's interesting
what he does with him. Not sure if he thinks it's another baby (and
mummy), or what.
He is eating a lot of fruit, even lumpy mush made by me rather than the
nice smooth stuff from jars.
Possible signs of teething tonight, had trouble getting him to sleep.
Maybe he was just over-tired. Hasn't eaten much, though.
